ASEAN, Climate Change and Politics

This week South-East Asian leader held the ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) Summit in Thailand. Climate Change was a key topic and it seems as though it is all talk and no action. Every ASEAN summit we hear more and more about how these nations are going to change their ways and reduce their impact on the climate, but no action is taken.

Really, Climate Change in itself is a whole lot of madness as first it was global warming and then when people realised that the earth was actually cooling, they changed it to climate change so that they could keep the scaremongering going a bit longer. It has been scientifically proven that the Earth warms and cools naturally and if anything, we are going through a mini ice-age. It is natural for a planet to undergo changes in climate and weather and the human race is contributing negligible amounts of CO2 and other gasses to the atmosphere.

The ASEAN Summit is however focused on believing this scaremongering and want to appeal to the popular opinion and so decided to 'act', and by act I mean sit down, agree on something and never come good on their promises...just like any other politicians. If they really anted to appeal to the masses then they would act, even if they know that what they are doing will do nothing on the long run and very little in the short-term.

Maybe if the popular topic shifted away from the climate and towards other more important things like poverty or public hospital systems, then the world might be a better place, but nothing can improve when politicians sit down and talk about what the people want to hear. Politicians should have their own agenda that is not dictated so much by the popular opinion and more by the real issues in the world.
